Department of Transport Hosts Webinar to Drive Diverse Culture on State Boards

The Department of Transport hosted a webinar to promote the benefits of gender balance, diverse culture and inclusion on its State Boards as part of celebrations for International Women’s Day. The webinar, which took place on Thursday, 3rd March 2022, provided useful information on how to apply for a State Board position and give insights into the challenges and opportunities which Board positions can present.

The webinar was open to anyone who feels they could actively contribute to Boards across public transport, maritime, aviation and road safety. There are a range of upcoming opportunities on Transport State Boards in the next year and the Department is working to support these boards to deliver on their remit and to become more diverse.

Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan TD and Minister of State Hildegarde Naughton TD both contributed to the webinar alongside Fiona Ross, Chair of CIE and Michelle Noone, Head of Senior and Executive Recruitment at the Public Appointments Service. It is hoped that the webinar will drive engagement and participation from qualified and experienced talent across society and females in particular, who would greatly enhance the culture and experience of Transport State Boards.

Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan TD said, “we know there are significant numbers of qualified women who would be of great benefit to our State Boards. Achieving gender balance and diversity at Board level remains challenging but we are committed to driving this positive change and shaping our Boards to deliver for the citizen.”

“This webinar aims to outline the process of applying for board positions and will seek to promote opportunities on Transport State Boards to a diverse audience.”

Minister of State Hildegarde Naughton TD said, “it is our goal to attain the Government’s target of 40% gender balance on State Boards and while there is still progress to be made, we are working to promote inclusion at board level. I would encourage anyone who may be interested to attend the webinar to find out more about board positions and how the application system works.”

“There are opportunities on boards working across public transport, maritime, aviation and road safety which may be of interest to those working in these arenas but also those from other sectors of society too.”
