Bus Éireann Launch ‘Fill a Bus for Meals on Wheels’ Arklow Appeal

Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company is joining with Meals on Wheels Arklow appealing for contributions for the vulnerable, elderly, people living alone and young families in the area. On Thursday the 8 of July, a Bus Éireann bus will be reserved for the day at the car park of Bridgewater Shopping Centre, from 9am to 4pm with the intention of filling it from top to bottom with donations from the local people of Arklow.

Bus Éireann is at the heart of communities throughout the country and we are very proud to support the Arklow Meals on Wheels service at a time when it is so badly needed” said Sales Executive for Bus Éireann, Michael Colleran

“We supported Meals on Wheels in Dundalk recently and it was a huge success. Since the Covid19 pandemic there has been a huge demand from the most vulnerable in our society for the Meals on Wheels service. All donations whether big or small are very welcome and appreciated on the day.”

Meals on Wheels have been running since 2003 in Arklow and supports over 120 households in the locality every day. People can bring non-perishable goods for donation to ‘Fill the Bus’ such as tea, coffee, powdered custard, tins of fruit, creamed rice, gravy granules, stock cubes, cooking oil as well as useful household products such as tin foil, scouring pads, washing up liquid, disinfectant spray and disposable gloves.

“Bus Éireann operates daily services through Arklow including the Expressway Route 2 (Wexford – Dublin City – Dublin Airport) service and our Routes 133 and 133X (Wicklow – Dublin City – Dublin Airport ) service, which we have operated for many years in the locality. Together with our media partner East Coast Fm we are asking you to please come and help us ‘Fill a Bus’ for those in need”, continued Michael Colleran.

“We would like to thank Bus Éireann for partnering with us on this campaign”, said Hilary Sharpe of Meals on Wheels, Arklow.

“Since the Covid pandemic, we have seen a huge demand for this valuable service. All the volunteers of Meals on Wheels, Arklow and Friends of the Community have worked so hard to make sure that we help the most vulnerable in our society.”

“Most people who receive assistance from Meals on Wheels are seniors but we also help young families who are in need of support. Meals on Wheels offers nutrition and companionship to the most vulnerable people living in our community and we are sincerely grateful to the people of Arklow for their continued support”.
